Meet the So In Style™ Dolls

Stacey McBride-Irby grew up playing with Barbie® dolls. Now she's designing them! The African-American mother of two has been with Mattel for 12 years. When her daughter first started playing with Barbie®, she was inspired to create a line of black fashion dolls.

McBride-Irby personally designed and directed their fashions and sculpts, packaging and storylines based on what she heard from moms in her community. Get to know the characters and their little sisters, and watch as the designer herself describes how these special dolls came to be!

Step aside Ken®-Barbie® has a new dance partner! She's teamed up with celebrity choreographer JaQuel Knight to produce her first music and dance video. Barbie® in Italian Vogue

In 2008, Vogue Italia broke barriers by releasing an issue of the magazine that featured nothing but black models. The editors wanted to send a message about diversity in the fashion industry - and they succeeded. The magazine later reported a 40% increase in sales.

This year, the Black Issue is back, now with a special collector's version devoted to exclusively to Barbie®.

"Barbie® has been an icon for whole generations," says Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani. "That's why I wanted to give a strong sign...and dedicate the anniversary issue to Black Barbie®."

The Barbie® edition pays tribute to black and African-American Barbie® dolls with fashionable photographs inspired by the larger magazine.

"Barbie® has been a mirror of the times for 50 years," notes Mattel Senior Vice President Richard Dickson. "Italian Vogue has captured the essence of this positioning and her rich heritage in fashion and glamour in a way we have never seen before."

Barbie® Blows the Tent off Fashion Week

On February 14th, Barbie's very first runway show hit the stage in Bryant Park. For this history-making occasion, over 50 designers from Diane von Furstenberg to Calvin Klein to Vera Wang created couture tributes to highlight the timelessness of fashion's most fabulous icon.

The show was divided into three thrilling acts: Barbie's past fashions reinterpreted, Barbie's current look as seen through the designers' lens, and the future of fashion imagined.

Each look was totally unique to its individual designer, but all of it was undeniably Barbie®. Cat-eye glasses, poufy prom dresses, lots of hot pink and big hair ruled the stage. To top it off, every outfit was completed with sky-high, strappy Christian Louboutin's, specially designed for the show in Barbie's signature pantone pink.

The hottest moment? For the show's finale, all 51 stunning models strutted back onto the catwalk holding hands with a young Barbie® Girl who waved back to the cheering audience.

The celebrity-studded event was attended by Heidi Klum, Devyn Simone, Catherine Malandrino, Diane Von Furstenberg, Kimora Lee Simmons, Jonathan Adler, Annie Leibovitz and Bob Mackie, just to name a few.
