Barbie® Convention 2009
Washington, D.C. Goes Pink
This July, Barbie® painted the town pink when she flew in for the annual National Barbie® Doll Collectors Convention.
D.C. was packed with Barbie® fans from around the world, who gathered to celebrate 50 years of fashion, fun, and fabulousness.
Some of the haute highlights included glittery evening galas, doll shopping, and fashion and musical stage shows that honored Barbie® and her ever-evolving look.
The birthday celebration continues in the land down under. From June 26 to July 12, a special Barbie® exhibition ran in Melbourne’s Federation Square honoring the world’s most iconic fashion doll.
At the opening gala, Australian Vogue editor Kirstie Clements discussed Barbie® and her impact on popular culture.
Even Barbie® designer Robert Best was on hand to kick off the fashionable festivities.
Didn’t make it to Melbourne? Don’t despair! Enjoy pictures of the pink party and the doll-icious exhibit

Dixon is the first Canadian designer to create Barbie™ fashions for women. The line will be available in fall 2009.

March 9th:
Barbie® Shows Malibu How to Throw a Birthday Party
On March 9th, Barbie® hosted her 50th birthday bash at her REAL Malibu Dream House®, which was fully decked out by famed "Happy Chic" designer, Jonathan Adler.
The Colin Cowie planned party saw over 250 of Barbie's closest celebrity and designer friends strut down the pink carpet to sign a larger than life Barbie™ birthday card. Designer appearances included Trina Turk, Tarina Tarantino and The Blonds. Notable celebrities also partied the night away, including Heidi Klum, Ginnifer Goodwin, Lauren Bosworth, Aimee Teegarden, Jonathan Adler (of course!), Kourtney & Khloe Kardashian and Melissa Joan Hart. Check out the pink carpet photo gallery here.
The 3,500-square-foot Malibu Dream House® lived up to all the hype with styling that was totally Barbie® and undeniably glamorous. Jonathan Adler created show-stopping pieces such as a wall-mounted mirror made out of 65 black and white, bathing-suit-clad Barbie® dolls; Lucite tables filled with over 1,800 pairs of Barbie® sunglasses, 3,500 tiny shoes, and 3,500 doll sized handbags; and a dreamy custom closet, housing all fifty pairs of pink Louboutins from the New York Fashion Week runway show. Not to be outshone, designer Chris March from Season 4 of Project Runway created his own breathtaking creation: a chandelier for the sitting room, fashioned out of over 30 blonde wigs.
But the soiree had more than just eye candy. An on-site Barbie™ museum not only showcased 25 of the most iconic Barbie® dolls, but also the first reveal of the new Barbie® face (and who doesn't want one of those at fifty?). The walls were decked out in vintage Barbie™ art, including an authentic Andy Warhol and a Donald Baechler.
What else did Barbie® get for her milestone birthday? A new set of wheels, of course! But this wasn't just any car. Her new custom-designed, pink Volkswagen Beetle convertible is a super chic car any icon would die to own. The trunk has been replaced with a pink and white pin-striped, pop-up vanity with Barbie™ cosmetics, an mp3 player, LED lights and two drawers filled with drool-worthy beauty accessories. White rims, a pink airbrushed steering wheel, and plenty of rhinestone detailing complete the look. No doubt she'll be riding in style.
Next, select pieces from her Dream House® will be traveling to Las Vegas, where they'll adorn the new Barbie™ suite at The Palms. The suite is due to open for bachelorette parties, girls' nights out and pink pampering this May.
